  • What does the Jacket/vest protect?

The Hit-Air airbag system protects the wearers Chest, Neck, Shoulders, Back, Spine, Hips and Buttocks.

Jackets include CE approved Shoulder and Elbow armour.

A range of optional Chest and Back protectors fit directly into the Jackets and Vests.

  • How does it work?

In a fall or accident, the coil wire is stretched as the rider falls and will then pull the key ball from the activation Key Box.

A spring-loaded pin will then pierce the CO2 cap and inflate the air bag instantly.

The heavy-duty polypropylene airbag inside the jacket is an approximately 2m long tube.

The airbag is protected by a nylon sleeve of mesh providing resistance to friction damage in a sliding fall.

Full inflation takes less than 0.25 seconds, however immediate progressive inflation provides instantaneous impact protection.
A built-in air pressure relief valve assists deflation following the activation.

  • What is it made from?

The airbag jackets are made from a high strength nylon material suitable for motorcycling and horse riding.

Leather is not used as it will tear when the airbag is inflated and stretched.

If leather were to be used, substantial expansion gussets would be required substantially increasing weight and cost.

  • Can it be re-used?

Yes. The user can easily reset the activation key box within a few minutes using the simple tools and process.

A new CO2 cartridge will have to be installed.

Instructions are shown in the User Guide and on-line Manual.

  • How do I set it up?

The jacket is supplied with a CO2 cartridge and Coil Wire (mc)/Bungy Lanyard (hr) fitted.

Also included are User Guide, re-setting tools (Setting Bolt and Allen Key) and Swing Tags.

Once the Coil Wire / Lanyard is fitted as shown in the Guide, the Jacket/Vest is ready for use once clicked into the jacket connector.

  • How long to do the CO2 Cartridges last?

The CO2 cartridges have a sealed steel cap and have an indefinite shelf life.

The cartridge is unlikely to corrode.

Cartridge full weight should be approx:

    • 38cc  - 96g
    • 48cc - 145g
    • 50cc -  152g
    • 60cc - 184g
  • Can it be washed?

The jacket vest can be washed if the airbag system can be removed.

Instructions are shown in the User Guide and on-line Manual.

Harness style vests do not allow for the airbag system to be removed and can therefore only be wiped down as shown in the User Guide.

  • Can I wear a Jacket over HIT-AIR?

An existing jacket can be worn under a Hit-Air vest.

The airbag vest should not be obstructed, although lightweight waterproof jacket or high visibility vest can be worn over the Vest/Jacket.

  • Can I wear a protection vest under HIT-AIR?

Yes.  Hit-Air fitted body protectors are also available as accessories.

  • How much does it Cost?

Hit-Air vests range in price from about $600 to $800.

Jackets are priced from about $750 to $1000.

  • Do the jackets meet standards?

There are no motorcycle or horse riding jacket standards at this time.

Hit-Air jackets have been manufactured and sold throughout the world for about 20 years, and have a long history of service and quality using high quality materials and manufacture.

Protectors used in the jackets meet CE standards.

  • Warranty and return?

Both Australian sales warranty and Manufacturers Warranties are applicable.

Return and Exchanges are permitted if in “as new” condition with all fittings.  See our Return Conditions.

For Special Orders, there may be a surcharge or special conditions - see SPECIAL ORDERS.

  • If the rider forgets to disconnect the coiled wire and dismounts the motorcycle, will the airbag be activated?

A pulling force of about 30kg is needed to release the key ball to activate the airbag.

Normally, the dismounting rider feels a strong tug to know that he/she has to disconnect the coiled wire before the airbag is activated. In fact, a small motorcycle or a scooter may topple over, if the rider forgets to disconnect the coiled wire before dismounting.

Always disconnect the coiled wire before dismounting.

  • Once an airbag is activated and inflates, can it be reused?

Yes, it can be reused if it has not been damaged.

The activaation Key Box and Connector can be reset using the setting bolt and the hexagon Allen Key supplied with the Hit-Air. This can be easily done in a few minutes by the rider.

The setting bolt MUST be removed after resetting.

Then, replace the CO2 gas cartridge.

If there is any damage to the airbag, ask the authorized dealer for a maintenance check.

  • CO2 gas cartridge?

The size (capacity) of the cartridge varies from model to model.

Make sure that the size (capacity) shown on the sticker attached to the CO2 cartridge and that shown inside the key box cover are the same. (Some models have no size label inside the cover.)

If the right size for the model is not clear, see: Replacement gas cartridge list

  • Can I wash my jacket?
    1. Do not wash or launder the airbag system (Shock-buffering Protection System).
All-in-one airbag/harness type should not be washed/laundered.
    2. The airbag system should not be dipped in the water.
    3. Take the airbag system and protectors (shoulder, elbow, back,  etc.) out from the vest/jacket and wash or launder the vest/jacket only in accordance with the washing instructions.
See: How to dismantle the airbag system ?

    How to remove stains.

    1. Wipe the surface of the Hit-Air system (neck, hip cushions etc.) with a damp cloth to remove stains.
    2. Hang it up together with a CO2 cartridge, spray water on its surface with a shower except on the key box which should not get wet.
  • Can I wear a back pack on the Hit-Air?

We don't recommend to wear a backpack on the Hit-Air.
A light backpack can be worn over the Hit-Air by loosening its shoulder straps, but it can prevent the airbag from inflating smoothly and properly.

  • Is the airbag still effective if it has damage by friction during an accident?

The airbag starts inflating once the key ball is pulled out from the key box and it cushions the impact even if it is not inflated fully at the timing of the first impact.

Even if the airbag is damaged by friction, the airbag cushioned the impact until it gets damaged.

  • If a rider forgets to release the coiled wire when dismounting the horse, will the airbag activate?

Quite a strong pulling force is required to activate the airbag.

When dismounting, the rider may feel a strong tug and realizes that he/she has forgotten to disconnect the one-touch release.

However, be careful not to dismount a horse forcibly to avoid unnecessary activation.

Always disconnect the one-touch connector before dismounting a horse.

  • Once an airbag is activated and inflates, can it be reused?

Yes, it can be reused over and over again provided it has not been damaged.

Simply replace the gas cartridge and reset the activatinf key box using handy tools supplied with
    the jacket.

If it is damaged, consult with an authorized dealer for a maintenance check.

  • How long will the airbag system last?

The up-and-down movement or horse exertions may cause the deterioration of a key ball, coiled wire/lanyard or airbag tube.

A maintenance check is recommended at least once a year, depending on frequency of use or activation.

An additional or replacement key ball set and coiled wire is sold separately.

  • Can I wash my jacket?

Do not wash or launder the Hit-Air (Shock-buffering Protection System).

Hit-Air jacket  all-in-one airbag should not be washed/laundered.

Take the Hit-Air system and protectors (shoulder, elbow, back,  etc.) out of the vest/jacket and wash or launder the vest/jacket only in accordance with the washing instructions.

  • What is the weight of each model?

M(EU) size fully equipped with a gas cartridge, linings and padding:

    • Vest: 1.4 - 1.5kg
    • Jacket with a small key box/light gas cartridge: 1.4 - 1.8kg

Even if the airbag is damaged by friction, the airbag cushioned the impact until it gets damaged.
