Why you need a "Hit Air" airbag jacket

Your leather motorcycle jacket may help save you from "gravel rash" but will it help absorb the unexpected impact of being thrown to the road from your bike and a collision with a motor vehicle, guard rail or any of the many other "unfriendly" objects that are common on our roads? The "Hurt Report" analyzed 3,600 motorcycle traffic accidents and found that 75% involved a collision with another vehicle. The report also comments that the typical motorcycle accident allows the motorcyclist just less than 2 seconds to complete all collision avoidance action.

Horse riding accidents are all too common in recreation and sporting areas. Besides the occasions of loss of control of the horse due to various incidents there are accidents when riders are thrown from their mounts and are injured by the fall, a collision with an object, or a following horse.

Studies of horse riding accidents show spinal and neck injuries are common. Refer RCIS study and JR Silver study

There have unfortunately, been many rider fall and accident injuries and deaths in motorcycling and horse riding which could have been possibly avoided if the Hit-Air airbag gear had been worn.

Your safety is your own responsibility!  Avoid the discomfort and inconvenience of injury

HISTORY AND INTERNATIONAL DEPLOYMENT

Hit Air is a trademark of Mugen Denko Ltd based in Nagoya, Japan.   Refer:  www.hit-air.com

In 1998, this company was the first to develop and market an airbag intended for motorcyclists.

The technology was then quickly applied for horse riders.

The original patent, which is still in force, relates to the characteristics and operation of Hit Air products. In particular, it protects the cervical spine more than any other product on the market.

The family business achieved a turnover of around 9 million USD in 2020.  All the airbags are assembled and checked in the workshop which employs around 30 people.

It should be noted that Hit-Air airbag technology equips and protects a large number of motorcyclist police forces throughout the world: Japan, Spain, Indonesia, China (Beijing province), France, Turkey, Monaco, South Korea, Barhain , Morocco, Cameroon, Qatar and is in use in Australian motorcycle and  mounted police units.

With more than 200,000 airbags sold throughout the world in 20 years, Hit-Air is asserting itself as the international market leader.

DESIGN

The Hit-Air airbag is purely mechanical.

A cable provides a physical link between the person and their mount (motorcycle or horse).

In the event of a fall, the connecting cable/lanyard is pulled out to activate the system.  This releases the gas contained in a CO2 cartridge to inflate the airbag within the jacket.  Within less than 200 ms the airbag deploys and protects the individual by a set of air cushions that absorb and distribute the impacts associated with the fall.

The performance of the Hit Air airbag system is based on a patented architecture with complete protection of the neck and spine, from the cervical to the sacrum and coccyx. Coverage includes the chest and bottom.  Body organs are protected from injury.

The system is easily repacked and reset by the user in a few minutes, requiring simple tools and only a new CO2 cartridge.  The system can be re-used for many years and requires minimal maintenance.

Protection Advantages

Non airbag jackets or vests provide only abrasion protection. Zone or localised armour provides limited impact protection. Optional spine protectors (“turtle backs”) or body protectors are heavy and bulky, are usually uncomfortable and restrict the riders' movement.

When a rider is thrown from their bike or horse, the Hit-Air airbag is automatically activated by a coiled wire lanyard attached to the bike/saddle. Using a CO2 cartridge, the Hit-Air airbag system operates within 1/4 a second. The airbag remains inflated for 3-5 minutes as a slow air release valve allows progressive deflation. Accidental triggering is prevented by the specially designed activation key box attached to the jacket.

When inflated in an accident, the airbag absorbs any life threatening and injury causing collision forces on the riders' body by compressing at the point of impact and redistributing any impact loads throughout the entire bag. There is very effective protection for the rider at the chest, neck, shoulders, back, hips and bottom .

The airbag itself is protected by a high strength nylon sleeve and is unlikely to be damaged. If the airbag is not damaged, the rider can easily repack and reset the activating mechanism in 3-5 minutes. A replacement CO2 cartridge costs only about $40.

Other major effects of the airbag inflation are that it also:

  • Firmly holds the jacket in position enabling the material to be presented for best abrasion protection, reduction of snagging and prevention of “riding up” ;
  • Acts as a full body "air splint" to keep the wearers spine immobile reducing potential injury.
  • Protects the riders rib cage and internal organs from the damage caused by severe impacts.

The Hit-Air airbag system has been successfully marketed throughout Asia and Europe since 1998. HIT AIR Australia provides a wide range of airbag jacket models for sale in Australia with our 20 years of experience and customer service .

If you wish to minimise the risks associated with motorcycling or horse riding a HIT AIR jacket is an affordable safety item and is a good investment.

Using the HIT AIR jackets gives the rider a stronger sense of protection, safety awareness and responsibility, and greater riding pleasure.
